Du Preez, 25, joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch in the off-season in a deal worth around R10-million and was identified as a key player to improve their attacking output.
But in an inconsistent season for the club, he’s been struggling to find the back of the net on a regular basis and his relief was evident when he opened the scoring from the spot last Saturday in their 2-1 win over his former club.
“I think it’s because of pure emotions, the first game I didn’t celebrate against them because I showed respect to Stellenbosch,” Du Preez said when asked by iDiski Times about his emotional celebration at FNB Stadium.
“They made me who I am today and I think the second time was just pure emotion, I was really happy to score against them.”
Du Preez went on to state that he’s move to Chiefs wasn’t as daunting as one would have imagined as he received a warm welcome into the squad.
“I think when I came here at Chiefs, they welcomed me very well, I know a lot of players here, I played with [against] them before,” du Preez stated.
“It wasn’t anything new, the welcome here was very overwhelming and I think they helped me so much. They are helping me to get better and I’ve learned so much from outside [side of life.”
Du Preez has netted seven goals and registered five assists in 24 games for Amakhosi in his debut season thus far.
