Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has given an update on the squad’s injury issues, with Peter Shalulile close to a return, while Abubeker Nasir is already back in team training and just two long-term injuries.

The defending DStv Premiership champions will be back in action on 30 December when they host Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld.

Masandawana, who returned to training in the beginning of the week, will travel to Polokwane for a training camp this week. Mokwena confirmed that he has many of his former injured players back on board, including Shalulile and Nasir.

“We looking to get Peter Shalulile back to the green grass within the next week or so,” he told the club’s media team.

“Haashim Domingo has made very good progress also, it’s something that excites us.

“[Sphelele] Mkhulise came off in the Carling Black Label and he’s also coming a little bit closer to returning from injury. Bradley Ralani is coming closer to starting conditioning work with the physical trainers and gradually being integrated into team training. He’s still a bit off from selection for matches, friendly matches.

“Erwin Saavedra is making steady progress and is also looking to be integrated into team training.

“Cassius Mailula is also working very hard and getting back to a condition where he is ready for training with the conditioning team. The last is Mosa Lebusa [who] is also making good progress.

“Abubaker Nasir is back, he’s training with the team but also still a bit off in relation to his condition.”

However, despite all the good news, Abdelmounaim Boutouil (via iDiski Times) and Terence Mashego will seemingly sidelined for longer after having to undergo surgeries.

“But we only have two longterm injury concert which is both Abdel Boutouil and Terence Mashego have gone under the knife. So they have undergone surgery, those would be the two long-term injuries,” he added.

“Majority of the players are making good progress. A lot of credit needs to got to them for the work they’ve been putting in, with a lot of credit for the medical stuff and the biokeneticists.”
