Pirates midfielder set to head to PSL rival – report

Out of favour Orlando Pirates midfielder Ntsako Makhubela is reportedly set to head back to former club Golden Arrows.

Makhubela signed for Golden Arrows ahead of the 2019/20 DStv Premiership season, and caught the eye of Orlando Pirates, where he has been based since 2021.

The midfielder played a number of matches last season, but he has received hardly any game time this campaign under new coach Jose Riveiro, and recently there has been talk that he could be loaned out.

According to a Phakaaathi report, Arrows are now desperate to have the 28-year-old back in their camp.

“Arrows have made an offer for him, they really want him because Pirates are not using him and they (Arrows) think that getting him will help the club and him. They know him and they know what he can do for the team, that is why they have tabled an offer for him,” said the insider.

“Arrows are looking to do well for the rest of the season, they lost a number of good players in the past and the team is aiming to finish in the Top8 on the table this season.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have reportedly won the race to sign young Cameroonian striker Marou Souaibou on a four-year deal.

Last month, Cameroonian football website kick442.com reported that Marou Souaibou – who formed part of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions squad at the FIFA World Cup – had signed a multi-year deal worth around R3.4 million plus add-ons with Pirates.

SABC Sport offered further insight to suggest in another report that the 22-year-old was expected to be heading to the Buccaneers after successful negotiations between Pirates and his club Coton Sport.

At the start of this week, it’s now been reported that the club has officially agreed to sell Souaibou for an amount of US$200 000 (R3.4m), which will be paid with a 15% selling on fee.

It was previously reported that three European clubs had entered the race for the striker’s signature, namely Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Standard Liege, Armenia Bielefield of the German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1 side Clermont Foot FC.

It’s not surprising that Souaibou is in high demand considering that the talented forward is said to have scored 21 goals in all competitions last season on the way to claiming the 2022 Footballer of the Season in Cameroon, but Pirates seems to have successfully won the race for his signature.
