AmaZulu have expressed an interest in Pule Mmodi, whose deal with Golden Arrows will expire at the end of the season.

Mmodi was the talk of town during the off season, when he was understood to be wanted by Kaizer Chiefs. But the move did not materialize as the fee was never agreed between both parties.

He was left distracted by that, struggling to find his footing at the start of the season, with Arrows coach Vusi Vilakazi admitting that Mmodi’s mental state was not right since he and everyone at the club knew about the rumours.

The 29-year-old, as he will see his contract expire in June next year, legally, has every right to sign a pre-contract with the club of his choice in January.

“At the moment he’s contracted at Arrows until the end of June and there’s no option to renew after that,” Mmodi’s representative Solomon Seobe of SR Sport Management told iDiski Times.

“The only team that approached us that wanted him was AmaZulu. But it will depend if they want him now or they will weigh their options.

“But if they are seriously interested, they will approach Arrows if they want him and both clubs will then engage on the way forward when it comes to the contract – I don’t know.”

Mmodi has since shaken off his off-season mental state block, scoring in four successive games, becoming the first and only player in the league to do so in 13 appearances.

“But AmaZulu informed me to show interest formally but as an agent they know the protocol,” added Seobe.

However, Seobe said he is not sure whether Mmodi will be at Arrows when the second half of the season starts or if he will only leave at the end of season, with AmaZulu now in the picture.

“I’m not sure because I don’t know what Arrows will come up with and maybe they will say we want an extension,” said Seobe.

“But in January he’s free to sign a pre-contract with any team, including Arrows. But I’ll not go behind Arrows’ back and obviously I’m open and I will see what their intentions are because relationships are very important.”

If Mmodi moves across from to Arrows to AmaZulu, he will become the fifth player to do so following Philani Shange, Samkelo Mgwazela, Tyrese De Bruin and Siphelele Magubane, who left Abafana Bes’Thende to join Usuthu.
