Polokwane municipality Sport and recreation manager Mantlako Sebaka says the deal to have Kaizer Chiefs play some of their matches at the Peter Mokaba stadium, is as good as done.

Sebaka told iDiski Times that the parties still need to finalise documents and sign, however agreed on three matches this season.

“The Chiefs deal is done. It only requires us to now finalise on the agreement and sign the document. And again essentially it means we are agreeing on three games or three matches for the remainder of the PSL season. I think there’s a game between the home team which is Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows, another one with Royal AM and the last one I think it’s against Swallows” he said.

Sebaka says the move was inspired by the need to revive the economy through sport tourism following the effects of COVID-19. Sebaka further said the agreement with Amakhosi so far is only for the three games though the club has the first right of refusal to negotiate for more games.

Sebaka was asked if this deal has anything to do with the rumours that Marumo Gallants were relocating from the province where they have enjoyed the municipality’s facilities. He said they have not received any formal communication if Bahlabane ba ntwa are leaving.

“With Marumo, the funny part is that in a partnership you have parties it can be three it can be four but in this case it’s between Polokwane and Marumo. The funny part is that we are not getting any communication from Marumo Gallants. I must admit that we also heard those rumours but never, never had anyone from Marumo formalising, even if it’s a phone call to say we are moving on, thank you, bye-bye. We haven’t heard that”

“And it’s really strange because under normal circumstances when you are in this type of partnership, there’s got to be some kind of communication and it’s not forthcoming. We haven’t broken away from the contract. We haven’t breached the contract. So if it was us who said to them, cheers goodbye it means they wouldn’t be using our facility to practice or to train” he added.

At the beginning of the season Sebaka told this publication that Swallows was also going to use their facilities. He says they still have not resumed discussions with the club but in the beginning, they had hoped that they could bring three teams but the congestion of the league created an untenable situation for them.
