Timm: I Didn’t Flinch To Join Pirates

Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm says he got a full script that many people doubted him to join the Soweto giants.

Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm says he got a full script that many people doubted him to join the Soweto giants.

Timm, at the age of 30, few thought he would land a big move like Pirates, but he showed his qualities at Marumo Gallants, who he led to two Nedbank Cup finals – winning one and losing the other.

However, it was clear that Pirates needed a deep-lying number six, who can initiate the moves and also break the play.

Timm was doing that even though no one saw it coming that he would land at Pirates. But he has proven everyone wrong, playing every minute, along with Olisa Ndah, on the Bucs’ way to win the MTN8 final against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium earlier this month.

He capped things off in the final match, claiming the man of the match, something he was motivated to do since the city of Durban is where he was born.

In 13 league matches Pirates have played thus, Timm has featured in 11 and has rekindled his combating approach with Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.

The duo was outstanding when Gallants won the Ke Yona Cup in the 2020/21 season, with the latter scoring a scorcher in the final to decide the match against Chippa United.

While Ndlondlo’s quality was undoubtedly, Timm’s combative approach was clear, but fans were not enthused about his signing at first.

“Little bit,” said Timm when asked by the iDiski Times if he felt people doubted him joining the club.

“But I don’t pay too much attention to it. I did hear it here and there, and that is okay. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I know what I do every day and how I live my life.

“I breathe soccer. Since I joined, Orlando Pirates is my way of life. I tried to be in sync with the club with the way I live, the way I do things and the results will always show on the pitch.

“There’s no use in talking and saying ‘this one likes me, this one doesn’t like me’. Actions are on the field.”

Timm’s importance was vindicated when he missed the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs late last month, as Pirates struggled to knit things together especially in the midfield where Chiefs dominated the game.

The former Chippa and Maritzburg United midfielder feels joining Pirates was the right decision, even though he was close to joining Sekhukhune United during the off season. In fact, Pirates hijacked the move.

“100 percent,” said Timm.

“I know some people weren’t happy. But it is my career, it’s my decision, it’s my choice, which I decided to pick and I didn’t flinch one bit. I was excited about the challenge and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.”

Timm’s form saw him called up for Bafana Bafana squad that beat Mozambique and drew against Angola in two friendly matches almost two weeks ago.
