Three of Kaizer Chiefs’ ageing stars look set to take pay-cuts next season.
Eric Mathoho, Khama Billiat and Itumeleng Khune are all in their final year of contract at Naturena.
And according to local reports, the trio face the serious prospect of taking massive pay-cuts.
Itumeleng Khune (35), Eric Mathoho (32) and Khama Billiat (32) are into their final year of contract at Naturena.
Their current contracts come to an end at the end of the ongoing season.
And now, according to SoccerLaduma, the trio face an almost certain drop in pay come next season.
If their contracts are extended, the trio won’t be offered the massive packages they’re currently on at Naturena.
And if they aren’t extended by Kaizer Chiefs, then the chance of securing a team that pays anything close to the mighty Amakhosi is slim according to the publication.
While a move to the Middle East remains a possibility, their age and dismal form will make it highly difficult to earn a contract there.
In other news, Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat has opened up on his close relationship with teammate Keagan Dolly.
The duo have played together for over a decade after first meeting at Ajax Cape Town during the 2012/13 campaign.
They then linked up at Mamelodi Sundowns and formed part of Pitso Mosimane’s dream team before eventually reuniting at Chiefs last season.
Billiat has since opened up on the special bond he shares with Dolly while admitting, it stretches well beyond the white lines.
AMAKHOSI STAR DUO ARE MORE THAN JUST TEAMMATES
“We train (together), we talk and it has come to a point whereby it is not about what we do at training,” Billiat told the Vodacom Ringa Nathi series as quoted by Citizen.
“Sometimes it is about the conversation that we have, we could be in a hotel room and it goes like, ‘hey bro I think we need…’
“Or like we are watching a game together and we see something and we talk about it.
“It’s a relationship that we have and it is spreading to the entire team. We are getting to know some things about the other players and we are working on those relationships.
“We are now looking forward to a great finish to the season.”
