Former Kaizer Chiefs star Mandla Masango says he owes his life to the club and feels supporters who were saddened by his acrimonious exit shouldn’t be upset.

Masango left Chiefs at the age of 24 after winning two league titles and ventured for a move to Europe in the Danish Superliga with Randers.

After an impressive season, he looked to force a move away from the club and ended up spending six months on loan at SuperSport United in the 2016/17 season and has not played professional football since.

Sections of Amakhosi supporters have harbored hopes that the tricky winger would eventually return to the club, and while he stated he has no regrets about his career that yielded 22 caps for Bafana Bafana, he admitted that he holds the memories of his time at the Soweto giants closest to his heart.

“I will reveal most of the stuff [that happened at Chief] in my book but just to give you a highlight of that situation – I’m really grateful to the club, the Chairman, to the entire staff, I had my fair share and enjoyed,” Masango said when asked how he felt about the fans calling for his return when he became a free agent.

“I will always cherish [what I had with Chiefs and the fans], I am what I am today because of Kaizer Chiefs, so I will always give my all for Chiefs, whether it’s in a coaching position one day, whether management whatever, I will always owe Chiefs my life.

“I am what I am today because of Kaizer Chiefs and the fans, clearly they must not be upset [about what happened to me], players come and go, it’s life, they just need to heal from that, move on and support the current generation.”
