Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is linked with no less than three DStv Premiership clubs as he continues to train with his compatriot Greg Etafia, who is TS Galaxy’s goalkeeper coach.
Indications are that Akpeyi has offers on the table, and his representatives are weighing them up following his departure from Chiefs in June.
Akpeyi, who wants to emulate the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, wants to join a club where he will likely play as he is eager to be part of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which is set to resume in September.
KwaZulu-Natal outfit Royal AM, Swallows, and Chippa United are believed to be keen on the services of the 35-year-old. SuperSport United are said to be another club monitoring Akpeyi’s situation, with SSU CEO Stan Matthews admitting that Ronwen Williams will likely move to rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns, in what is believed to be a swap deal with Ricardo Goss.
Sekhukhune United, who have been making several changes to their squad, were previously also linked with the former Chiefs shot-stopper.
As reported by the Siya crew, the Dube Birds are in search of a keeper as Virgil Vries is going to leave the club, while Sekhukhune look to replace Zimbabwean shot-stopper Tapuwa Kapini.
Furthermore, Akpeyi has been linked with Orlando Pirates, who are also in the market for a goalkeeper.
