Rulani Mokwena is believed to be a key man in Mamelodi Sundowns’ pursuit to secure the signature of a top midfielder, and the club’s co-coach was spotted with the player in question yesterday afternoon.
The Tshwane giants are making serious efforts to get the player on board, and information reaching the Siya crew is that Sundowns have offered Bongani Zungu a lucrative three-year deal as the club looks to mount a serious challenge for the CAF Champions League title.
Zungu was seen with Sundowns’ Mokwena in Duduza on the East Rand, the township where Zungu hails from.
The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after parting ways with French club French Ligue 2 side Amiens and indications are that both Sundowns and the player are keen on a reunion, but Zungu hasn’t closed the door on a return abroad.
Mokwena was seen having a conversation with Zungu as Black Poison, Mokwena’s Soweto-based amateur team was competing in a top-eight tournament on Thursday. Mokwena’s men won 1-0 against the Warriors in Duduza. .
Zungu is in South Africa for the off-season, and the highly-rated midfielder is expected to have more meetings with Mokwena as Sundowns aim to secure a deal to deflect interest of suitors eager to sign the player.
Kaizer Chiefs, Israeli Premier League giants in Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Maccabi Tel Aviv are some of the clubs said to be keen on Zungu.
