With indications that Sibusiso Vilakazi’s exit from Mamelodi Sundowns is imminent, four teams have come up as potential candidates to secure the attacker’s services.
Vilakazi’s contract with Sundowns is set to expire at the end of June, and the club has not yet triggered the option that will see him stay at Chloorkop for the 2022/23 season.
As reported by the Siya crew, Vilakazi’s agent, Mike Makaab, stated that Sundowns had a deadline of May 31 to decide whether or not they want to exercise the option. However, the deadline was missed and talks still continued. Indications are that an announcement by the Chloorkop outfit is set to be made soon.
Vilakazi has seen little game-time in the past few seasons and only made 11 appearances across all competitions in the recently concluded campaign.
According to Siya sources, numerous DStv Premiership teams are believed to be keeping close tabs on the Vila's situation, with five possible destinations coming to light for the attacker.
Sekhukhune United
The Siya crew has been led to believe that Sekhukhune United are eager to sign Vilakazi as they see the 32-year-old as a replacement for Yusuf Maart, who has joined Kaizer Chiefs. Insiders have revealed that the player’s financial terms are beyond the reach of Babina Noko.
AmaZulu and Royal AM
Two KwaZulu-Natal sides, both with deep pockets, AmaZulu and Royal AM, are understood to have joined the race for the player's signature. According to sources, both clubs see the midfielder as a top priority.
Kaizer Chiefs
Chiefs have been long-time admirers of Vilakazi, and reignited their interest in the attacker during the January transfer window. A move to Naturena looks unlikely as the club has already signed Maart, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Lehlohonolo Matlou.
