A former Kaizer Chiefs defender has given the club the thumbs up for deciding not to play their DStv Premiership match against Cape Town City over the weekend.
Amakhosi made it clear before the clash that they would be unable to host the encounter, after they had requested the PSL to postpone four matches due to the Covid-19 outbreak at The Village. Up to 31 members at Naturena were affected, so Amakhosi chose to take the responsible decision not to play, though it could see them forfeiting points.
The PSL have been mum on the matter, despite keen interest from Amakhosi supporters and neutrals.
“The way things are at the moment, as a country in terms of Covid, I feel it was a good decision. It’s not like it’s something that they woke up and decided to do. The players have tested positive, so it was just a request, but obviously the final decision is with the PSL. That’s the only problem with that, but we should remember that they made this request to protect other players, in terms of opponents,” Mabotsa told the Siya crew.
“I don’t know what the rules are, but the PSL will have the final say.”
Chiefs are scheduled to visit Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday, but they have been mum on whether or not they will honour the fixture.
