Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has explained why he excused himself from his role as Cape Town City assistant coach.

Mokoena was appointed assistant coach to former Citizens mentor Jan Olde Riekerink early this year, but has not been in the role since the start of this season. Mokoena explained to the Siya crew that he is busy with a few other projects and has a bigger desire to either own a club or work in development.

"I am in the Vaal. I just launched the Aaron Mokoena Football Academy. It's based in the Vaal. That's one project I had to get off the ground. I have also been doing football identification in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo. I am actually signing a memorundum of understanding with the Gauteng Department of Education to establish Aaron Mokoena Wednesday school sports. In short, those are the projects I am busy with," Mokoena said.

"I am also busy with a course. The reason I had to move is because I am busy with what we call the UEFA Executive Master for International Players course. It's a two-year course, so basically it's about equipping myself to know how to run a football club or an organisation. I felt that they these things are too much because once you are a coach, you are there 24/7. So I could not really have that time. I had to excuse myself to be able to finish what I just told you about. But if you listened to interviews I did when I was a player, I always used to say that I don't see myself as a coach. I always thought that I want to own a football club or be in a development set up. Yes, I have a Uefa C License and I can do coaching, but not for a professional football club."
