Mamelodi Sundowns stand unmatched in their club bonus policy, the Siya crew’s resident secret agent has concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns stand unmatched in their club bonus policy, the Siya crew’s resident secret agent has concluded.

The football intermediary would know, given their extensive background in the field and having worked on several deals across many of the Premier Soccer League clubs that the Brazilians stand out when it comes to incentives.

Earlier, pressmen had it confirmed that Downs players share 80 percent of the prize money from cup competitions, while the technical team divide the rest.

“Sundowns have always had a very good bonus system in place over the years. A lot of the PSL clubs have bonus structures, all different, unique, but by far Sundowns stands out. They have been able to attract players, paying good salaries and of course bonuses. It’s difficult for Chiefs and Pirates to fully compete, however there are examples of players choosing other clubs over Sundowns,” the secret agent explained.

“The sharing of the MTN cup final money is something also previously seen, Sundowns are in a very strong financial position, it’s a luxury they can afford. Chiefs and Pirates cannot match Sundowns financially, however that doesn’t mean to say they shouldn’t be able to challenge strongly. It all depends on how structures within both clubs are managed especially in the areas of scouting, recruitment and youth development – critical areas of both clubs that, if managed correctly, can go a long way in order for them to consistently challenge Downs.”

As far as the agent is concerned, Sundowns are competing with the heavy weights on the continent in wages and bonuses.

“On the African continent, Al Ahly are by far the biggest spenders on players’ salaries etc., far more than the likes of Sundowns. This gives them a big advantage, from a Champions League perspective,” insists the secret agent.

“The Motsepe family investment in Sundowns is vast, Pirates and Chiefs do not have the same financial muscle to compete. However, what they do have is experienced owners at the helm, a very good structures in place that can and should enable them to compete far better than they currently are. That leads to the question then: are the internal politics within both respective clubs the main Achilles heel as to why they find themselves lagging behind huffing and puffing without a real fight? Maybe that’s another topic for another day!”
