Kaizer Chiefs may be at risk of losing one of their utility players on a free if the club doesn’t move swiftly to tie him down.

Word reaching the Siya crew is that the Glamour Boys have not yet held talks regarding the future of defender Reeve Frosler!

It’s a big risk for Amakhosi – the young right back is in the final year of his contract, has had limited game-time and initial discussions around an option in the deal he signed in January 2019 when he joined from Bidvest Wits is vague.

Frosler was hailed a major signing by the club’s then coach Ernst Middendorp, with the German mentor desperate to throw him into the line-up as soon as possible but was forced to wait because the player lacked match fitness.

He’d been sitting idle at Sturrock Park having fallen out of favour with coach Gavin Hunt and the club’s hierarchy after CEO Jose Ferreira revealed that not only was Frosler refusing to sign a new contract, but the player had also declined an offer to go on trial at Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes.

Chiefs had long made plans to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the 2018/2019 season, but the two clubs agreed to his early release and Amakhosi paid a figure Siya sources have put at just over R500 000.

Fast forward to nearly three years later and it’s the Glamour Boys now at risk of seeing the player leave Naturena!

According to insiders at the club, Frosler is frustrated with the fact that he has been dropped to second choice right back as Stuart Baxter, who returned to Chiefs for a second spell in June, prefers Njabulo Blom.

Earlier it was reported that Frosler had attracted interest from Europe after his profile was circulated in Germany and France.

Siya sources also revealed that Nashville SC from the Major League Soccer in the USA had also put the Chiefs right back on their radar.

It’s understood Frosler is still appealing to that market and being a free agent could potentially be the drawcard, although a move abroad under Covid-19 is not as straightforward as it was in the past.

Clubs in that part of the world now seem to prefer looking at emerging young talent in neighbouring countries as many of them aren’t attached because some of the academies overseas are cutting costs due to the pandemic.

Frosler’s situation will then depend on whether Amakhosi will reopen talks over a new deal and frankly discuss his chances of playing regular football.

If he’s not on the pitch, his value depreciates in the market, especially if his camp will be eyeing to move him abroad.

But a 23-year-old who has been to the youth World Cup and the recent Tokyo Olympics won’t be a hard sell to rival PSL clubs, more so when they don’t have to pay!
