Former Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba has shared his thoughts on the state of defending at the club.
The Buccaneers have made some notable changes in their defence this season that has seen the return of Happy Jele, who was struggling to get game-time last season.
With Thulani Hlatshwayo having lost his spot in the national team, he seems to be struggling at club level.
Gcaba, who was part of a rock solid defence at the Bucs, says the biggest challenge in any team at the back is finding the right combination, as in the past with Siyabonga Sangweni and Lucky Lekgwathi.
"It’s just about finding the right combination at the back, you need players that will understand each other and know each other's role during the game," Gcaba told the Siya crew.
"Defending is a very critical position, it is very deep because it’s all about protecting your goals, making sure you don't allow anyone to dominate you. It needs unity and communication."
The former defender is hoping that the Buccaneers can bounce back from their slow start and is positive that they can still have a good season.
"I just hope the team bounces back and finishes the year strong, even though I think they still very far from Mamelodi Sundowns, but I'm positive they can still have a good season," he added.
