Percy Tau’s move to Al Ahly from Brighton & Hove Albion has been welcomed by a former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder who is excited about the switch.
Tau is expected to resurrect his career under coach Pitso Mosimane after struggling for game-time in the English Premier League.
While some in the fraternity have had their varied opinions on the Bafana Bafana international’s move to the African champions, former Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse has commended the 27-year-old for the switch.
“I think it’s the best decision that Percy Tau made. Number one, he has gone to a coach that knows him. Number two, he has gone to the biggest team in Africa. If you compare Al Ahly to Brighton, it’s chalk and cheese. Yes, the English Premier League is the most watched league but if you are not playing who is watching you? You go where people want you, and I think Percy made the right decision. He’s going to be playing at Al Ahly and he’s going to be playing for the biggest team in Africa and he’s going to be playing Champions League every season. He has a coach that loves him and that supports him, and I think he’s going to do really well at Al Ahly. I don’t see him not going overseas again,” Carelse told the Siya crew.
“I think he’s going to go from Al Ahly to Europe because he has that potential of breaking into those leagues again, but he needs to be playing. If we have that asset in our national team, he needs to be playing. We can’t have somebody sitting on the bench, exactly what the national team coach said that he is not going to pick players who are not playing. Personally, I’m very happy for him and I just wish him the best and I know he’s going to make us proud,” said Carelse.
