Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena says anyone of the 36 players at Chloorkop can wear the captain's armband, with the club not confirming who is the skipper.
With Hlompho Kekana set to make an exit, as reported by the Siya crew, Sundowns are yet to make an announcement on who the new captain of the club is. Mosa Lebusa wore the armband at the start of the season, but the defender was out with an injury recently as goalkeeper Denis Onyango was given the responsibility of leading the team.
Against TS Galaxy on Sunday, Lebusa returned to the starting line-up, but Onyango carried on as captain of the team. Ricardo Nascimento, who has been recovering from injury, is a player who has also worn the armband.
"Who is the Sundowns captain? We've got unbelievable leaders in the changeroom, from Kennedy Mweene, to Denis Onyango, to Mosa Lebusa. We don't rely only on who wears the armband. We've got a lot of senior players that assume a lot of responsibility in the changeroom and because of that, it becomes just a formality," Mokwena said after the defending champions' 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.
"The FIFA rules say that somebody must wear the armband, (but) the reality is that anyone of our 36 players can wear the armband."
Sundowns will take on Soweto giants Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, September 25.
