the veteran midfielder is believed to have been offered a role at Naturena when he does finally hang up his boots – and it’s thought he is being earmarked for a coaching position.
Whether that is with the senior team or within the youth structures of the club is not yet clear given that Katsande has recently joined Sekhukhune United after his Chiefs contract was not renewed when it expired on June 30.
Talks of his potential return are on hold.
Should he indeed go back to Chiefs, the Zimbabwean will join an impressive list of former players Amakhosi allowed to remain part of the game they love by roping them into various coaching positions over the years.
Ryder Mofokeng, Doctor Khumalo, Ace Khuse, Brian Baloyi and Jimmy Jambo are some of the notable names with different responsibilities at the club as coaches in the senior team or as part of Chiefs’ youth development.
Another one is current assistant coach Arthur Zwane, who was calling the shots in the reserve team before being promoted last season under Gavin Hunt and has kept his position under new coach Stuart Baxter, who returns for a second spell.
Steve Komphela is another ex-Chiefs player who, although he was established by the time he took over in 2015, got to coach his former club, while former captain Patrick Mabedi was his assistant at some point during that spell.
Katsande will be in great company should he indeed decide try his hand at being a coach when calls time on his illustrious career.
