Fresh after penning a long-term deal with the club, Mamelodi Sundowns’ latest signing has joined his new teammates in training and could be in line to make his club debut against Kaizer Chiefs.
Last week, the Siya crew reported that Sundowns were lining up a new long-term deal, for former South African youth international Pule Maraisane, who has been on the club’s books since 2020 – but was never officially part of the club’s first team.
Now, the latest news reaching the crew’s desk is that Maraisane has put pen to paper with the reigning DStv Premiership champions and has already started training with his new teammates.
Sundowns will restart proceedings in the DStv Premiership against Kaizer Chiefs on 12 September at the Loftus Versveld Stadium, a match in which the 26-year-old could make his first appearance for the Chloorkop-based outfit.
This will be Maraisane’s first stint with the Downs first team, having spent the last season out on loan in the GladAfrica Championship with Cape Town All Stars.
As to where the Stars of Africa development product will fit into Downs’ star-studded team remains to be seen, although he could give them a number of options thanks to his versatility to play across any attacking position.
Before returning to South Africa in 2019, Maraisane was on the books of Turkish outfit Cerkezköy 1911 Dogan Spor where he spent one season.
