Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has opened up on starting the DSTV Premiership in goal for Amakhosi, while touching on his inclusion in the Bafana Bafana squad announced by Hugo Broos for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Bvuma started in goal in Amakhosi's opening league match against TS Galaxy this past Sunday, getting the nod ahead of the experienced Itumeleng Khune. Bvuma kept a clean sheet and will be hoping to get another opportunity when the Soweto giants take on Baroka FC at FNB Stadium this evening, a day after he was included in the Bafana Bafana squad to face Zimbabwe and Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers next month.

After keeping a clean sheet in the opening game, Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter has a big decision to make on who will start in goal. Khune was questioned, particularly on social media, for his performances against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8, so it remains to be seen if Baxter will give him a chance to start in goal or he will carry on with Bvuma, who would want to get some more game time after receiving the Bafana Bafana call-up.

"It feels great (to start in goal) and it shows that I have been working hard. The coaches decided to pick me for this one and I am grateful for being chosen to start the season. It's not my first time starting an opening league game. I remember in 2019/20 I started against Highlands Park and we won the game 3-2, so it was not my first time starting the season," the shot-stopper told the Amakhosi media department.

"I can't say I am happy (with the result against Galaxy) because as Kaizer Chiefs we are aiming to get three points. We did not get all three points, but it's part of the game. A point is better than nothing. I am happy I kept a clean sheet, but we did not win, so it did not feel that great. They are coming to Soccer City and I feel we as Kaizer Chiefs need to dominate. We need to make FNB a slaughter house, where teams are scared to come play. It's important that we show it when we play Baroka that we mean business."

Bvuma is one of three goalkeepers in the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming qualifiers.

"It's always an honour to be picked to represent the country. I am one of the 23 players who were chosen, so I am happy to represent South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers. I am happy and I am looking forward to this camp. As you saw, the players who were chosen are young and exciting players. I am looking forward to being there and getting all the experience I can and doing it for the country. I am forever grateful."
