Lelethu Skelem has been unveiled at a new club after parting ways with Stellenbosch FC where he has been one of the top performers.
As reported by the Siya, Skelem has been expected to join Maritzburg United in a swap deal involving Judas Moseamedi, who has since completed a switch to Stellenbosch FC for the 2021/22 season.
After being linked with both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, Skelem has been signed by the Team of Choice, who have confirmed his capture to add him to Ernst Middendorp’s squad.
“Maritzburg United have signed an exciting attacking player in Lelethu Skelem from Stellenbosch FC, with Judas Moseamedi set to move in the opposite direction. Pacey, mobile and with an eye for goal, Skelem will bring energy and industry to the Maritzburg front-line,” Maritzburg confirmed on the club’s official website.
Speaking through the KwaZulu-Natal club’s media department, Skelem said, “I’ve received a nice warm welcome from the players, the coaches and the staff. I’m 100 percent fully focussed and happy to work with coach Ernst Middendorp, more especially as an international coach. There’s that space for him to teach me more about football. I will do my best for the team to help us get good results. To be in the top eight and to fight for the top four, that’s the most important goal for me and also for the team.”
Skelem adds to Alfred Ndengane, Zukile Kewuti, Lifa Hlongwane, Brandon Theron, Richard Zumah, Rowan Human and the goalkeeping pair of Tato Lesoma and Renaldo Leaner on the list of new signings for the Pietermaritzburg outfit for the new season.
Meanwhile, Stellies also unveiled Moseamedi this morning:
