He will be the club’s vice-captain, taking the armband whenever Itumeleng Khune is not available for selection.
Baxter confirmed his decision following Amakhosi’s goalless draw away to TS Galaxy in their opening DStv Premiership clash in Nelspruit, with the question being raised by the press when Parker took the captaincy.
“We just think at the moment, Bernard being the senior player, he is the most suitable to be captain (when Khune is not playing),” Baxter explained.
“If we move down the line and someone really puts his hand up, then we will rethink. Right now Itu is the captain when he plays and Bernard is the vice-captain.”
Khune was dropped purely for tactical reasons having started for Chiefs in the MTN8 quarterfinals against Mamelodi Sundowns a week earlier, a game the Glamour Boys lost on penalties.
Parker also recently signed a one-year extension on his contract and is thought to be in talks with the club about a coaching position within the structures when he does hang up his boots.
