Maritzburg United head coach Ernst Middendorp revealed the reasons why Thabiso Kutumela was sold to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Kutumela completed a move to Sundowns last month - after his outstanding performances which helped the KwaZulu Natal-based side escape the drop - caught the eye of the defending champions.
Speaking to the media in Durban last weekend, Middendorp revealed admitted that losing their now-former captain was a big blow, but the player was keen on CAF Champions League football.
"We lost so many players in May and June, we lost Thabiso Kutumela very influential and really scored number of goals no doubts,” Middendorp explained.
"Kutumela was sold, and I understand that he wanted to play CAF Champions League, he wants to travel the world, I know he didn't do well at Orlando Pirates but now he is prepared and I wish him all the best at Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Sundowns will lock horns with Kaizer Chiefs this Sunday in the MTN8 quarterfinal and it remains to be seen whether the Bafana Bafana international will make his official debut this weekend.
