Orlando Pirates have parted ways with coach Jozef Zinnbauer just days before the DStv Premiership opening matches and the club's former midfielder Joseph Makhanya has shared his thoughts ahead of this round of fixtures.

The German joined the Buccaneers in 2019 and ended their six-year trophy drought by winning the MTN8 but was unable to lead the club to challange for the DStv Premiership honours.

Makhanya says it JZ's exit from the club was not a surprise.

"The firing of Jozef Zinnbauer was expected. He never had a good structure and well-balanced team, he never had strong and forceful squad from defence to attack, he never created a well solid team and it is good that he is gone," Makhanya told the Siya crew.

"Yes Zinnbauer has injury challenges. But he played an inconsistent and unbalanced team of players while they were not giving good perfomances. Some will blame injuries but we can't have excuses and Pirates had problems of scoring goals."

Dukuduku says the decision to appoint a new coach should not be taken lightly because the Buccaneers is a big team, and a coach needs to understand the pressure.

"Irrespective of who they bring outside or someone in the club - as we have coach Mandla Ncikazi. I want to see a competitive and well coached Orlando Pirates. We need an arrogant and brutal side that is competitive to themselves as I've seen that some players were always guaranteed starting line-ups regardless of their form," he added.

"Whoever is coming in, should be someone who knows what is (expected) of him. If he is rebuilding a team, they must be patient with him. If they want fast results they must be prepare him.

"We need to be realistic about the purpose of bringing new coach, they just need to be supported and trusted. This is Orlando Pirates, a big institution and must not be a small decision, it must be someone who can handle pressure."
