A Kaizer Chiefs legend has lashed out at young star Happy Mashiane for the club’s failure to win the CAF Champions League.
Mashiane, 23, was red-carded for a reckless tackle on Al Ahly defender Akram Tawfik in the Champions League final of Saturday.
Amakhosi went on to concede three goals later in the match to lose 3-0, and while Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has since sent the youngster a message of encouragement for his mistake, some have lashed out at the midfielder, including club legend Lucky Stylianou.
“The young kid had Kaizer Chiefs playing in front of him and closing down the player. Take age way, that was totally not acceptable in my opinion. I know he’s a youngster and everybody is putting their arm around him and saying don’t worry, but I don’t know when Kaizer Chiefs will get to another Africa cup final if you are going to say don’t worry, and you don’t want to destroy the youngster’s career,” said Stylianou, speaking to the Siya crew.
“But once you are a professional whether you are 18 or 32, you’ve got to understand the consequences. I’m old school and in my team, you play, and you are not going to tell me that you are a kid, then I’m saying what the hell are you doing on the field? Go back to the reserve team,” he added.
