According to Siya sources, Kaizer Chiefs and Swallows are in advanced talks over a potential loan deal with the season now just weeks away.
Chiefs recently announced the signing of Njabulo Ngcobo on a three-year deal following the defender’s stellar first campaign in the top-flight while playing for the Dube Birds and impressing so much that he was crowned the Defender of the Season.
Ngcobo was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that clinched the COSAFA Cup at the weekend and will now begin his new chapter at Naturena.
But the Dube Birds are yet to confirm which player they are getting in return, as insiders at both clubs had indicated to the Siya crew that there would be a potential swap deal – Yagan Sasman, Philani Zulu and Dumisani Zuma all believed to be targets.
Now, the latest is that Swallows are now in advanced talks with Chiefs regarding defender Sasman, who is still contracted to Amakhosi until June 2022.
Should the deal go through, it’s thought the player would move to join coach Brandon Truter’s side on a season-long loan.
However, the final decision still rests with Stuart Baxter, the recently appointed Chiefs coach who sat in the dugout for the first time when the Glamour Boys were thrashed 3-0 by Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League final on Saturday night in Morocco.
Chiefs have already signed four defenders in Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti, Sibusiso Mabiliso and Austin Dube and it’s expected they are going to offload a few players for Baxter to have a squad size that is manageable.
Sasman was out of favour for large parts of Gavin Hunt’s tenure, and though Baxter hasn’t had enough time to work with all the players, he is expected to go out on loan.
The Siya crew understands that the Dube Birds are hopeful a deal can be agreed before the tentative start date of the new season on August 14.
