A former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper has given reasons why Bruce Bvuma is in a good position to become the club’s long-term number one shot-stopper.

Bvuma has stepped up recently as the club’s number one shot-stopper, performing so well that there have been calls by some of the club’s supporters to have him as the first-choice goalkeeper going forward.

Bvuma was in fine form during Amakhosi's CAF Champions League first leg semi-final against Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca over the weekend, as the Soweto giants registered a crucial 1-0 win away from home.

Former Amakhosi goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe believes this is the perfect time to throw Bvuma in as the number one shot-stopper at the club. Itumeleng Khune has been seen as the number one goalkeeper for years, but it could be the beginning of a new chapter in that department, with Brandon Petersen also expected to officially be part of the the Naturena outfit from July onwards.

“I think it’s the right time now. Why I say this is because the supporters are not around in the stadiums, so it’s nice for him to get to start that. Remember when you play with supporters in the stadium, it’s tougher. Now we are watching and following him on TV and people are starting to believe in him. When people go back to the stadium, it will be simple because they will know what he can do because he has been doing well,” Mathibe

“The boy is doing well and it shows that Chiefs have started a new journey in the goalkeeping department. He is still young and I am hoping that Brandon Petersen will also be signed. I think it would be healthy competition between them. For me, he can be number one, but having Petersen will be good for Chiefs because it will bring healthy competition. He must not take anything to his head now. He must stay calm.”
