Tyson, Khune Among 15 Shock Omissions From Latest SA Squad
True to his word, current Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has shaken things up with his latest squad announcement, omitting no less than 15 big-name players.
When he was unveiled as Molefi Ntseki’s successor earlier this month, the Belgian promised to usher in a new era for the national team - sending a strong warning to the players over the age of 30.
Now, with Broos set to face his first test against Uganda in an international friendly on 10 June, the coach has left some jaws dropped with his maiden squad selection.
Squad veterans like Itumeleng Khune as well as captain Thulani Hlatshwayo were amongst those who missed out on Broos’ squad.
Both players, although proven at the highest level, have been struggling to replicate the form that has seen them become household names.
‘Tyson,’ who is the current Bafana captain, has come under fire for his costly blunders at Pirates. While Khune’s struggles with injury has seen him on the periphery at Chiefs.
Perhaps a shock omission from Broos was that of Mamelodi Sundowns ace Themba Zwane. ‘Mshishi’ has been a mainstay for the national team over the last few years, and despite being on the wrong age of 30, has consistently proven to be one of the best players in the country.
Bafana and the Cranes will lock horns on 10 June at the Orlando Stadium.
