Downs legend disagrees with Mosimane over his achievement with the Brazilians
Mamelodi Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba has argued that Sundowns have always been a good team and have no huge merits in creating an alleged ‘monster’ according to him.
Al Ahly will face Sundowns in the quarterfinal for the third consecutive time, having met them in the same stage of the tournament in the past two editions, with each winning one of the two.
Pitso Mosimane is also set for a return to his former club Sundowns, where he spent the majority of his coaching career between 2012 and 2020 and played a big role in the club’s rise to the pinnacle of African football in 2016.
However, Feutmba doesn’t believe the 57-year-old manager has a big hand in Sundowns’ explosion as one of the powerhouses in Africa.
“I don’t think so, Sundowns have always been good team. Yes he did well, but before him the team was doing well and even now after him, we are still doing well,” Feutmba said.
"Coach Pitso is coaching a big team now and it is going to be a very tight game. They are playing similar type of football. These teams are currently the best teams in Africa.”
"It is going to be tough encounter. Masandawana are currently regaining their form and Al Ahly have always been a good team. I hope they will give a game and I will be definitely be rooting for Sundowns, they will overcome.”
"This game is important for him. If you look at the ambitions of Al Ahly, it tells you that Coach Pitso’s job is on the line. If he loses, I think he might lose his job.”
“When you coach them you must understand that in that team if you lose against their rivals in a big tournament, you may lose your job.”
