Mokwena confident Sundowns will bounce back

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena is confident that his side will find its feet ahead of their DStv Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

The game is scheduled to start at 15:00 in the afternoon at Orlando Stadium.

Mokwena says there is no perfect season and admits every team goes through a rough patch along the way.

Masandawana are now winless in their last four games.

“Sundowns have been here before, and the players have the right amount of experience to deal with such hardships,” Mokwena told the media.

“We knew this was going to happen. Manchester City does go through difficult moments. In fact, they went through difficult moments at the beginning of the season, and they caught a little bit of momentum. Liverpool – same; Real Madrid – same; Barcelona – same.”

The Tshwane-based outfit are wounded tigers having suffered a frustrating 2-1 defeat in the hands of Kaizer Chiefs last Sunday – their first league loss of the season.

The side will be hoping to return to winning ways and give assurance to their loyal fans that they’re still the favourites to win the league title.

“We would be very naive to think – when we were sitting in a position with 21 games unbeaten in the domestic league – we were going to have a perfect season,” he adds.

“Because the season being as difficult as it is, strange as it is, the difficulties we have along the way only prepare us to try and navigate our way through and get to the finishing line as successfully as possible – that is the responsibility we have as Mamelodi Sundowns.”

The Brazilians are currently placed second on the table with 48 points from 23 outings, just two points behind log leaders AmaZulu FC.
