Gavin Hunt on why Kaizer Chiefs performs better in the CAF Champions League compared to domestic matches
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has explained why Amakhosi have been performing better in the CAF Champions League compared to their domestic matches.
Amakhosi have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals after registering a comfortable 4-0 quarterfinal first leg victory over Tanzanian giants at FNB Stadium over the weekend. The second leg clash will be played this Saturday in Tanzania.
The Soweto giants have registered five wins in the Champions League, which is one less than they have managed in 27 league matches this season.
“I think the Champions League is a game suited to this squad of players, because of what we’ve got. It’s a much slower game and a much more predictable game, so it comes at you, whereas in the PSL the players run faster than the ball. So, it’s much slower in the Champions League and it suits the group of players we’ve got here,” Hunt told the media after the game.
The former Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United coach vowed that he would come back stronger after a difficult first campaign with the Soweto giants.
“I’ve always kept a low profile. I’ve kept it low-key. There’s a lot of noise going around, you know. I don’t gloat, don’t say too much. I just let the records speak. I don’t get too down, but this season has been the most testing for me, personally. It has taken a lot of patience, a lot of endeavour, a lot of hard work. But it’s fine. I know I will come out of it stronger, personally. That’s for sure. Believe you me, I will be back stronger next year.”
