The Siya crew has it on good authority that a former Kaizer Chiefs striker is currently being assessed by Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca as he looks to take the next step in his career.
Former Amakhosi striker Gustavo Paez has spent the last few weeks training under the watchful eye of Raja coach Lassaad Chabbi, who is said to be impressed by the Venezuelan.
According to the player’s camp, the second placed Botola outfit, who will take on Orlando Pirates in the CAF Confederations Cup quarterfinal, are set to open talks over a possible deal for the player in the coming days.
Contacted for comment, the player’s South African representative Gerald Baloyi of Vodia Players Management confirmed that the 30-year-old has managed to impress the Moroccan outfit with his work ethic as a deal edges closer.
“Yes, it’s true. Raja is interested, they are happy with his work ethic. He has been under assessment with Raja and is now waiting to undergo medical testing,” Baloyi told the crew.
This move will come as a relief for Paez, who despite penning a deal with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in October 2020, had to return to his native Venezuala, with the Polokwane outfit failing to obtain his clearance from his former club, Mineros de Guayana.
Paez, who still harbours ambitions of playing in the PSL, signed a short-term deal with Venezuelan Primera Division outfit Yaracuyanos FC, will shift all his focus to Raja if a move does materialize, although a return to Mzansi in the near future cannot be ruled out for ‘Gusheshe.’
