AmaZulu and Golden Arrows edge closer to African dream

AmaZulu and Golden Arrows edge closer to African dream

The resurgence of both AmaZulu and Golden Arrows in the 2020/21 Dstv Premiership season might have come at the right time for them to test their abilities in continental football.

Though AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy said that they don’t have any CAF ambitions on their minds at the moment, it is quite clear that the team wants to be counted among the best in the country.

Arrows players have made it known that they want to play in African competitions, seemingly they have belief in teams capabilities.

With just six matches remaining for each of the two teams before the season comes to an end, it seems their destiny and African dreams rest on themselves.

AmaZulu, who are second on the log, three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns will welcome the 2-1 defeat suffered by Sundowns to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Stadium, as they look to close the gap at the top.

Though they will look to their neighbors Golden Arrows to cause another upset at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Wednesday when they host the wounded Sundowns.

Usuthu look likely to play in the CAF Champions League next season, if they are to continue their fine form until the end of the season.

The two sides have tough opponents to face in the league in their quest to qualify for either CAF Champions League or CAF Confederations Cup.

Usuthu have to face Cape Town City, Arrows, Baroka FC, Swallows FC, Orlando Pirates and relegation-haunted Maritzburg United.

Benni and his charges will have to dig deep if they are to maintain their position on the log or even go further.

Arrows are kingmakers in title race with both Sundowns and AmaZulu lined up for their next two matches.

They clearly can influence the title race or even enter the race if they win their next two crucial matches. Arrows remaining matches include Mamelodi Sundowns, two KZN derbies against AmaZulu and Maritzburg United, TSGalaxy, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC.

It will be interesting to see if Abafana Bes’thende have what it takes to climb up from third position on the log.

It’s that time of the season where calculators are out in terms of points for every team, both AmaZulu and Arrows will want to defeat Soweto teams (Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates) and take their spots in Africa for the upcoming season.
