Thulani Hlatshwayo

Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo has maintained his position as the most valuable defender in the DStv Premiership, but there are some of his counterparts who are closing in on him.
The man affectionately known as Tyson in footballing circles has come a long way since bursting onto the scene with Ajax Cape Town in 2009.
Over the last decade, the 31-year-old has seen his stock rise with both club and country as he managed to skipper both Bafana Bafana and Wits with aplomb.
This season, Tyson finally got his dream move as he signed for the Buccaneers, a move that had lingered on for the last few years with the Ghost making no secret of their admiration for the man from Soweto.
Now, as he looks to bring back the glory days to Orlando, after winning the MTN8 trophy in December 2020, Tyson currently has a market value of €1.2m (±R21.1).
This sees the defender ahead of Kaizer Chiefs’ Daniel Cardoso, whose stock has rocketed over the years to his market value of €750k (±R13.1), as well as in-demand Cape Town City star Taariq Fielies €725k (±R12.7), who has made it onto the radar of the country’s ‘Big Three’.
